Punch Bowl Cake

Punch Bowl Cake

Punch bowl cake is a more informal form of the English trifle, and is so named becuase it is usually served in a punch bowl. It reminds me of a huge banana split -- without the melting issues. The componants can be made from "instant" ingrediants, but it tastes much better if you make everything from scratch.

Punch Bowl Cake Ingredients

1 un-iced sheet cake
4 c. banana pudding
3 c. cherry pie filling
1 (20 oz.) can crushed pineapple, drained
4 bananas, sliced
1 pt. strawberries, hulled and sliced
3 c. whipping cream
1/2 c. sugar
2 c. toasted pecans

Tear sheet cake into bite-sized pieces. Whip cream until it holds peaks, adding sugar slowly as you near the end of the whipping process. Starting with the cake and ending with the whipped cream and nuts, layer one-half of each ingredient in a large punch bowl. Continue layering with the other half. Chill at least two hours.
